Home Organization: Makeup Edition

Hi there!

Welcome to the continuation of my home organization series! Thanks to Alessandra and all her wonderful makeup recommendations, I have grown quite the collection of amazing products that are worth showcasing. After finding this clear acrylic makeup organizer from Nordstrom Rack, I can now say that I have graduated from my wicker basket with thrown-in makeup products to this beautifully organized masterpiece. The makeup organizer that I purchased is perfect, allowing a spot for every type of cosmetic product I own with its 4 large drawers, 2 small drawers, and a 16 section top organizer.

Here are my recommended steps and tips for this project:

  1. Order the organizer(s) that best suit your makeup inventory. I have included links below to the one that I ordered along with other great selections from Nordstrom Rack.
  2. To begin this project, I suggest going through your makeup inventory and categorize your products by cosmetic type (for example – foundations, lipsticks, and eyeshadow pallets).
  3. I would then take this opportunity to clean your makeup brushes and sponges! I clean my brushes with dawn soap and warm water and have seen great results.
  4. After you categorize your makeup inventory and clean your brushes, I would then remove the makeup organizer out of the box, wipe it down as needed to remove any “factory dust”, insert black felt drawer liners that came with the organizer and begin organizing keeping in mind your makeup inventory categories.
    • Here is how I generally organized my makeup display for your reference:
      • Eyeshadow pallets in one drawer.
      • Highlighters, blushes, and bronzers together in one drawer.
      • Concealers and foundations together in one drawer.
      • Loose powder and compact powder together in one drawer.
      • Lip glosses and long lipsticks in one of the small top drawers.
      • Eyebrow gel, eyebrow pencils, mascaras, and eyeliners together in the other top small drawer.
      • Then on the 16 section top organizer, I used one of cups to hold my brushes, the other to hold my face primer and eyelash curler, and the big compartment to hold my setting sprays and my everyday “quick-grab” products. Then for the lipstick slots, I used it to hold my most used lipstick gems.
  5. Once all organized, step back, look at your newly organized masterpiece, and pat yourself on the back because you did that!

Here is the makeup organizer I used along with some other great ones I found from Nordstrom Rack! If you select the collage below, it will bring you directly to my LikeToKnowIt profile that has links to all the products shown. I will also include a link below to the light-up makeup mirror that I purchased from Amazon and am currently obsessed with!
